As a lifelong learner and as an educator, I feel as if my personal philosophy of education is constantly changing and evolving. In fact, I’ve written and rewritten my own personal philosophy of education several times throughout my teaching career! Certain aspects of my philosophy have evolved, but one thing that always remains the same is my love for learning, teaching, and my students. I believe that the purpose of education is to equip students with the necessary tools for them to become productive and successful individuals. In my classroom, I want to create lifelong learners that are curious about the world they live in and partner with parents to prepare them for life outside the walls of a school setting. I believe that each student is unique and that my calling is to help them develop individual strengths and provide an individualized learning experience for each student. It is so important for students to be engaged in their learning and take ownership of their own education. My students should leave my classroom knowing how to set goals for themselves and how to monitor their own progress. I’m also passionate about providing opportunities for students to engage in problem solving and collaboration with their peers. It is so important for students to work together and communicate their learning. I feel so blessed to wake up every morning and have the opportunity to work with students, develop meaningful relationships, and make learning fun!
About the Teacher

I am very excited to be entering my eighth year as a teacher at Whiteford Elementary! I've been in second grade for seven years and can't wait to make the transition to third grade this year! I am looking forward to another year of fun, learning, and partnering with our other third grade teacher, Mrs. Groch. Before I became a Bobcat, I worked for Bedford Public Schools as a 6th grade teacher and also as a Student Intervention Provider. I specialized in providing intervention to students who struggled in the classroom and needed differentiated instruction. I am a graduate of Siena Heights University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Language Arts and Elementary Education. I am also a graduate of Spring Arbor University where I earned my Master of Arts in Education degree.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I love Tiger baseball and all things MSU. Go Spartans! We also love to travel and two of our favorite places to visit during the summer are Northern Michigan and Southern Florida. Some of my favorite things are: the color purple, swimming, Starbucks, LaCroix sparkling water, Justin's PB cups, the beach, palm trees, Paper Mate Flair Pens and gel pens, and the month of October! I love fall and everything that comes along with it…warm days, cool nights, pumpkins, apples, and leaves changing colors! I am also a music lover and my husband often says that life with me is like a musical! I try to incorporate this love of music in the classroom because I know that it helps students to learn and retain new information...and it's a lot of fun!
Teaching is so much more than a job to me! I cherish the time that I get to spend with students each day and I thank you for sharing them with me and trusting me with their education. I love waking up every morning and experiencing what the day has to hold with my little sweeties...there is never a dull moment! My favorite thing about my classroom is that we are a family and a team. We support and respect each other and we cheer each other on as we strive to accomplish our goals!
