Shiver Me timbers!
Here's What's Happening in Second Grade!
This week we are going to embark upon 3-digit addition with regrouping. We've done really well with 2-digit addition, so I'm hoping we'll catch on to this skill quickly. I know I said I would send home some homework last week, but the kids were doing so great with this skill in class that it completely slipped my mind. I will do my best to remember to send home some practice sheets this week...I'm adding it to my "To-Do" list right now!
During writer's workshop, we are finishing up our first informational writing piece about "My Favorite Friend." Students will edit and publish their writing this week and then we will hang our amazing work in the hallway outside our classroom. Stop by and see it when you are in the building! Towards the end of the week, we will begin a new informational writing piece. The students will be working a little more independently on this next one. Our topic will be "All About Holidays" and we will be writing about our favorite holiday.
Our story for the week is Alexander, Who Used To Be Rich Last Sunday by Judith Viorst. We'll be reviewing how characters lear different lessons in stories and how we can learn from those lessons as well. We'll also be reading a nonfiction reader about Harry Houdini and learning all about how money is printed. Our grammar focus for the week is pronouns.
