We're Learning So Much...It's Scary!
Here's what's Happening in Second Grade!
We've been very busy in class preparing for our third and final NWEA test of the year. The NWEA is a great way to measure progress and gives me an idea of what each student needs to work on to take their learning to the next level. In class this week, we'll be working in small groups to learn more about author's purpose and point of view. Here are a few things you can do at home to reinforce our learning:
1. Continue reading for at least 20 minutes per night! It's so important to continue to build that reading stamina and allow your child to read material that interests them!
2. Take a few minutes to talk to your child about what he or she is reading. Ask them to tell you about what they read. Does it remind them of another story they have read? Does it remind them of something that has happened in their own life?
Did the author write this story to inform, persuade, or entertain the reader?
Math continues to be all about finding the area. We will continue to learn about rows, columns, and how to partition shapes into equal pieces. This week students will get to explore the school for different shapes and record the area of those shapes, create a robot area project and measure the area of their robot, and learn how to partition missing pieces.
