This past Wednesday, we were able to enjoy COSI on Wheels! A BIG thanks to 5th grade teacher Michaele Shephard who organizes this event every year and to our AMAZING Whiteford parents who volunteered at the stations!

We had a very fun-filled field trip at the Sylvania Historical Museum on Friday! Below are some highlights from our trip! Thank you parents for allowing your children to experience this fun and educational day! ![]() Our day began in the Carriage House, where we learned all about Native American artifacts & passed around some animal furs! ![]() Our next stop was the Log Home. This home is from 1840 and is furnished with items that depict pioneer life. ![]() We learned all about what kinds of clothing the pioneer boys wore. Sometimes they even had to wear shirts with flowers or pink pants! ![]() We also learned about all of the layers of clothes that pioneer girls wore. ![]() Our next adventure led us to the Quarry Stone Schoolhouse. Our friend in the picture demonstrated how one of the boys would go out to the well to get water for his classmates to drink. Everyone would drink from the same bucket and ladle! ![]() We learned about how a teacher might have disciplined her students. Our friend in this picture had to stand facing the blackboard with his nose in the center of the circle! We also learned that teachers might smack your hand with a hickory switch or even give a spanking! Yikes! ![]() Next stop, the Train Depot! We also were able to tour a caboose & fully restored electric locomotive! ![]() After lunch, we were able to stretch our legs and play some pioneer games! Even though pioneer boys and girls had many chores and had to attend school, they still liked to run and play! |
