It finally came…the last day of school! We had a fun morning filled with beach towels and board games. I had to laugh when one of the boys was laying on his towel, eating his snack, and he says, "This is the life. I'm laying on the beach enjoying my Doritos and getting a tan." Too funny! I'm glad that they all have great imaginations! Below are a few pictures from our last day at the "beach"! A BIG thank you to all of the parents and students who sent in heartfelt notes and generous gifts! I cherish your kind and thoughtful words and appreciate you taking time out of your busy lives to write a little note or buy a gift. My heart is so full and thankful for all of my students this year. They will always hold a special place in my heart and I will not forget all of the wonderful memories that we made over the past year. I am also grateful for those of you parents who truly took the time and energy to support your students with their learning this year! I want you to know that you are the exception, not the rule. Your hard work and effort will benefit your students for years to come and they will learn from your example. I will miss all of you and hope that you have a wonderful, relaxing, fun-filled summer! Don't forget to come and visit me next year at Open House, drop off your summer workbooks, and give me a BIG hug!

What a fantastic day in 2nd grade! We all had a wonderful time celebrating our achievements and accomplishments at the 2nd grade awards assembly. Thank you to all of the parents, grandparents and other family members that attended. It has been a pleasure and an honor to partner with you in your child's education. All of the learning that takes place simply couldn't be done without you! I appreciate all of you and all that you do for your kids! Following the assembly, we came back to the room and had our "Candy Awards" ceremony and I handed out end of the year gifts. So much FUN! Each student received a brand spankin' new mechanical pencil, a Judy Moody book, and a summer workbook. Please remember to keep your child's summer workbook handy and have them complete it throughout the summer. If they return their workbook to me at Open House or during the first week of school, they will receive a special treat…and a BIG hug from me! Below are pictures of all of the kiddos from our Candy Bar awards ceremony. We celebrated our last full day of school with delicious s'mores, watermelon, and a birthday treat! A BIG thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers who donated extra watermelon from the 3rd grade picnic. We were able to sit outside on the sidewalk and make a gooey, sticky mess! I wish I had pictures, but I was covered in Nutella and marshmallow fluff! The kiddos also did a great job of helping to pack up all of the tables & chairs at the end of our day. I am blessed with a classroom full of good helpers!
Just a few reminders…I sent home a Remind 101 text this morning reminding you that we have the 2nd grade awards assembly at 9:15am on Tuesday morning. Also, Wednesday (our last day) we will be having a beach party in our classroom. Students are welcome to bring beach towels and board games. I will provide a snack and we will be dismissing at 11:10am. We made it through another day and we're hanging in like champs! You would never guess that we have gone to school 5 days past our original end date. These kids are amazing and we're having fun reviewing and completing some fun end of the year projects. We're also mixing in some outdoor play time and some fun treats in the afternoon. After we came in today from extra recess, we all enjoyed an ice cold sweet treat…Capri Sun pouches for everyone! A refreshing treat to quench our thirst after running and playing in the hot sun!
We enjoyed a fun picnic style lunch in our classroom today! The original plan was to head outside and enjoy our lunch in the grassy courtyard and soak up some rays, but the weather wasn't cooperating. Instead, we enjoyed our lunches on our classroom carpet! No pictures today, but imagine twenty-five excited second graders crowded together on the carpet sharing lunch and lots of laughter together. What a special memory! Oh, and did I mention that we got to take our shoes off while we ate lunch?!?! It was the stinkiest lunch date I've ever had! We all had a great day today!
A Honeywell Alert went out last night, but just a reminder that our 2nd grade awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, June 17th at 9:15am. The ceremony will probably last for 45-60 minutes. Today was all about popcorn! We enjoyed a special treat of popcorn this afternoon and talked about adjectives that describe how our popcorn looked, smelled, tasted, sounded, and felt. We ran out of time in the day, but tomorrow we plan on watching a very cool video about how popcorn is made and completing our popcorn themed Father's Day projects! Check out the popcorn video below... With the end of the school year right around the corner, we will be having special themed days to keep us motivated. Today's theme was "Bubbling with Excitement" and we celebrated with a bubblegum blowing contest and a bubblegum machine fraction craftivity. We read Pop! The Invention of Bubble Gum by Meghan McCarthy and The Gum Chewing Rattler by Joe Hayes. We also viewed a short video on how bubblegum is made! I included the link below in case your kiddo wants to watch it again. It feels bittersweet to welcome June! On one hand, I am so excited for warm weather, sunshine, and a little break from routine. However, on the other hand, I am so sad to send my sweet little friends that I have come to love so much on to third grade!
The end is near and we are wrapping up our normal curriculum. Monday, June 2nd will be our final math test for the year. Actually, it will be our final test for the school year (with the exception of wordily wise students). Instead of sending home a weekly newsletter, I will be keeping you updated via the blog. I will also try and post as many pictures as possible as we will be squeezing in lots of fun during our last few weeks together. This Friday the WPA will be hosting the elementary carnival. Our class will be attending from 10-11:30am. Also, please mark your calendars for the 2nd grade awards day on Tuesday, June 17th. I will update you with a time as soon as possible. Following our awards ceremony, the students and I will also be having a fun candy bar awards ceremony in our classroom. If possible, please do not plan on signing your student out early on this day. I would love it if all of the students could stay and participate in this fun and memorable event! Our last day of school will be on Wednesday, June 18th and we will celebrate with a Beach Party! Please plan on sending your child to school with a beach towel, a hat, some cool shades and a board game! I will provide a snack and we will hang out at the "beach" and play games! A great way to end our fantastic year together! |
