We had a fun-filled 100th day today with lots of sweets and treats! This morning we made our 100th day trail mix. Students went through the line assembly-line style and grabbed 10 of each of these delicious goodies below. Once students had grabbed all of their goodies, they headed back to their tables for some sorting fun. Each student sorted his/her snack and then enjoyed all of the tasty treats!

Second grade students had a great time sorting candy hearts (and eating them, too!) on Valentine's Day. We also used our candy hearts for a Valentine's themed Mad Libs story. Students tossed a candy heart onto a sheet of silly adjectives and filled in the blanks on their story sheet. We all came up with some sweet and silly stories!
This afternoon we had parent-teacher conferences at Whiteford Elementary. I had a former second grade parent stop in and talk with me for a few moments about how the Xtra Math program has helped her students. She had her kids do Xtra Math all summer long and they are the ONLY kids in third grade who know all of their addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts! WOW! I was so proud and so impressed. All it takes is five minutes a day, but the results are outstanding!
On Valentine’s Day we will be celebrating all of the friendships we have made in school by having a Valentine’s card/treat exchange. The students have requested to make Valentine’s mailboxes at home. Please decorate a large shoe-size box with your child to collect their Valentine’s cards and treats. Be creative and make a house, a car, an animal, a movie character, or anything you can think of that is unique and fun! Please remember to leave a good-sized slot for cards and treats to be deposited and removed.
Please have your box to school by: Thursday, February 13th Our Valentine’s Day party will be: Friday, February 14th |
