During our math time, we made these adorable little whale craftivities! The kids always love making crafts, but we never do a craft that does not have learning or meaning attached. Since we are wrapping up our unit on measurement, we made our whales and then measured each part of the whale's body. We were able to measure the tail, the fins, the mouth, the body, and even the spout!

We enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon by finishing up Miss Vroon's Market Day Social Studies project. All of the second graders set up their stores and sold their goods and services to other second graders. We all had a very fun afternoon and it was great to see the kids put all of their learning into practice. Thanks Miss Vroon for a fun project! The Nail SalonComicsBookmarksCookies & LemonadeHomemade SlimeFace PaintingThe face painting girls were so popular and had such a long line that I had the opportunity to jump in and help with face painting. What fun! Below are some of my creations. Not too bad for my first try at face painting! I wonder if the girls will hire me full time?
Today was a very busy day in second grade! This morning we had our Unit 8 Progress Check and tested our knowledge on fractions. Everyone did very well on this test! We also made our adorable Cookie Fractions, pictured above. This was such a fun little craftivity to practice our fractions!
We continued our study of fractions today by making fraction pizza! I love teaching fractions and this has got to be one of my favorite activities. Each child begins with a wheel of sauce and six slices of cheese. Students are then able to choose toppings for their pizzas including: sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, pepperoni, pineapple, and black olives. Students have to make a plan for how they will assemble their pizza. When they have finished planning, cutting, and glueing their pizza creation, they record their fractions. Such fun! Below are some super cute pictures of my second grade pizza chefs! Stay tuned for more fraction fun later this week! Fraction BINGO, fraction hats, and our Unit 8 Progress Check on fractions on Thursday, March 20th! Don't forget to study!
We had so much fun today with our M & M data collection project! We have been working on sorting, tallying, and graphing data. Working with candy makes the assignment even sweeter! We also were able to sort our M & M's and represent our different colored candies with fractions.
