Shiver Me timbers!
Here's What's Happenng in second grade!
November is coming to a close and we are ready to head into December full steam ahead! On Monday, we will begin our Holidays Around the World activities. We will be traveling to seven different countries this year over the course of the next few weeks. Our story for this week is How to Catch Santa by Jean Reagan. We'll be comparing and contrasting Christmas and Hanukkah, learning to ask questions as we read a text, and reviewing the parts of a friendly letter.
During writer's workshop, we will begin a brand new unit on how-to writing. This week we will do a guided how-to writing assignment about how to make pie in a cup. Students will be guided through the writing process of brainstorming, writing, revising, editing, and publishing. We'll focus on organizing our ideas using time order transition words, describing words, and adding vivid verbs in our writing.
During the month of December, our math lessons will be all about double and triple digit addition and subtraction with regrouping. We'll be taking a small break from our Everyday Math curriculum to focus on this very important skill, so you will not see any Home Links coming home during the month of December.
Finally, here are a few pictures (and a video made by Mrs. Schmidt) that I've taken of some of our learning activities over the past month. Enjoy!
