We're Learning So Much...It's Scary!
Here's What's Happening in Second Grade!
Here are a few things you can do at home to reinforce our learning:
1. Continue reading for at least 20 minutes per night! It's so important to continue to build that reading stamina and allow your child to read material that interests them!
2. Try and find a book of poetry at home or from the library and read a few poems with your child. Take a few minutes to talk to your child about what he or she is reading. Ask them to tell you about what they read. Does it remind them of another story they have read? Does it remind them of something that has happened in their own life? Can you identify rhyming words, alliteration (Cady the cat chomps on crumbly cookies), or repeated words or lines?
Our main story for the week is Rosie Revere Engineer by Andrea Beaty. We'll be taking a look at how rhyme adds rhythm to a story. We'll also be reading a nonfiction reader about Amelia Earhart and comparing the two texts. We'll wrap up our week with a fun activity that focuses on engineering and seeing things in new and creative ways.
