Shiver Me Timbers!
Here's What's Happening in Second Grade!
Our story for this week is How to Catch Santa by Jean Reagan. We'll focus on the skill of asking questions while we read. We're also going to learn all about how to write a friendly letter. Students will be writing a friendly letter to Santa on Tuesday which may include some Christmas gift requests. These letters will be coming home so that parents can make sure these letters make it to Santa in the North Pole (wink, wink)! We'll also do some nonfiction reading about Christmas and Hanukkah and compare the two holidays.
Writer's workshop will also focus on how-to writing this week. We'll be writing our very first how-to piece about "How To Make Pie In A Cup." I'm sure the kids will have no trouble staying engaged with this fun writing assignment! During math, we are finishing up our unit on 2-digit subtraction without regrouping and moving on to 2D shapes. We'll be learning all about sides, vertices, angles, and quadrilaterals this week. We'll wrap up our week with a fun Sci-Fri activity called "Let It Snow" that explores the inside of a baby diaper!
