We had a very fun day today and a visit from a mystery guest! When the kids came in this morning I had a very special Halloween treat of candy corn waiting for them on the back table. I told the kids that they could have the candy corn as soon as we got back from the computer lab. When we came back from computers, our candy corn was gone! In it's place was a note from…the Candy Corn Bandit! We made predictions about what the Candy Corn Bandit might look like and we also predicted what he could have done with our treat. After we finished with our predictions we set out on a scavenger hunt to find our missing candy corn. We found six different clues. Below are pictures of our class as we discovered each clue. The Candy Corn Bandit led us all over the school on a wild scavenger hunt! The last clue led us back to the classroom where we found our candy corn waiting for us on the table! We enjoyed our treat and made some adorable Candy Corn Bandit crafts that are hanging in our room. We also found many more clues from the Candy Corn Bandit in our classroom throughout the day (like the itty bitty candy corn sticker below) and even had a few sightings in the hallway! We're all keeping our eyes open in case the Candy Corn Bandit strikes again! Last, but not least, some adorable pictures of my second grade candy corn vampires! Love these kids and the fun we have every day! Cutest little vampires I have ever seen!

Recently we've had some mysterious & silly occurrences in our second grade classroom! The kids and I have been working hard to solve this little mystery…we even had to call in the principal last week! We've had some missing Halloween candy, some adorable little black footprints all over our tables, and a HUGE praying mantis under my desk (which I think is totally unrelated, but it scared the living daylights out of me!). Above is a picture of some of the students observing the tiny footprints. Hopefully this week we are able to solve the mystery of the mini footprints and missing candy. Stay tuned!!!
Today during our science classes, we wrapped up our study of butterflies with a super fun & super yummy butterfly life cycle craftivity! The kids created their butterfly life cycles on paper plates while I passed out the eggs (mini marshmallows), caterpillars (sour gummy worms), pupa in chrysalis (tootsie roll), and butterflies (mini pretzels). I love activities like this because it really helps the students remember and attach meaning to important information! Below are some pics of our fun afternoon!
Hi Parents! Victoria Stevens has graciously offered to plan & organize our classroom Halloween party...YIPPEE!!! I am very thankful (in case you couldn't tell!) because this allows me to give my full time & attention to planning fun, learning activities for your students on a daily basis. Planning a party is a big job & I am very grateful to those of you who are willing to volunteer your time, money, and resources to make the day special for your kiddos. With that being said, Victoria has the list of parents that signed up to volunteer at the Halloween party at open house, but if you weren't there and would still like to help please let me know and I will pass your information along to her! As the party planning gets underway, communication will be sent home letting you know of items you can donate & how you can help on the big day. On another note, I made a very exciting announcement to the kids this week about a great opportunity that we have as a class. We will have a class of second grade pen-pals from Ms. Duffy's class in the state of Washington. We looked at Washington on the map yesterday & we are already working on writing our personal introduction letters this week. I am hoping to have the letters signed, sealed, and ready to be delivered on Friday afternoon! We plan on writing throughout the course of the year & we also have plans to Skype Ms. Duffy's class!
