Our little group of 2nd graders enjoyed some turkey-themed fun today on our half-day of school. We made these super cute turkey hats and wrote one thing we were thankful for on each turkey feather. We also enjoyed our cereal smorgasbord and had a yummy cereal snack and some donut holes. Everyone was so quiet and so busy eating, you could have heard a pin drop! Thanks to all of you who donated cereal, milk, spoons, and bowls. I overheard one of the kids say that this was the best day of her life!
Whiteford Elementary students have been working hard to bring in food items in order to provide Thanksgiving blessings for some of our Whiteford families. For each food item that was brought in, we added another link to our chain. This morning, all of the students in the school brought their chains out into the hallway to see if we could wrap our chain around the entire building. We succeeded! Not only did we show kindness and caring towards others, we also earned a hat day in the process. All students are able to wear a hat to school tomorrow! Fact & Opinion TurkeysI wasn't planning on taking pictures today, but these little turkeys were just too cute to resist!
We began our Thanksgiving week by sharing our Thankful Plateful projects. Below are the students and their beautiful projects that they worked very hard to create! It was great to hear of all the things that these sweet second graders are thankful for. I am thankful for each one of them and their families! We have had a wonderful start to the year and I am looking forward to much more fun & learning together! We also read about the history of Thanksgiving in our Time for Kids magazines. TFK is such a great resource to use in the classroom for non-fiction reading. When you pay for your child's subscription at the beginning of the school year, these are the great learning opportunities that your child gets to experience! We learned about the first Thanksgiving, the voyage that the pilgrims took on the Mayflower from Plymouth, England to Plymouth Colony in America, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We also learned how to read a recipe for "Yumm-kin Pumpkin Dip" and we were able to taste the yummy pumpkin creation! We wrapped up our fun-filled day with Thanksgiving learning centers. Our week may be short, but it is jam-packed with learning, fun, and memory-making!
