Here's What's Happening in Second Grade!
I'm all about the themed days at the end of the year and our themes for this week will be: Tuesday {Learning with Lemonade}, Wednesday {Once Upon An Experiment}, Thursday {Pickle Taste Test}, and Friday we will be having Field Day in the morning followed by some fun science activities in the afternoon.
I will be sending home a "Summer Learning Packet" sometime this week. I will send a Remind text so that you know when to expect it! I know this time of year is crazy, but PLEASE do not throw this packet away! Just put it aside somewhere safe and pull it out later when everyone has had time to decompress from the school year. This packet will be great for rainy days or times when you want your kiddos to get in a little quiet time during the summer. It's so important to keep those brains healthy and practice some of the skills that we've learned this year. Inside this packet will be a close reading workbook from a reading curriculum pilot that we did earlier this year. This is great for reading short stories and answering comprehension questions. Also, there will be 2 Everyday Math journals. These should have quite a few blank pages to work on since we opted for a more hands-on approach with many of our lessons this year. These pages are still great for reviewing over the summer! There will also be a summer workbook and a list of websites and passwords for the kids to access some online games and materials. If the kids return the completed workbook to me in the fall, they will receive a special gift! And of course, I would recommend reading for 20 minutes a day. I will send home some reading logs to make it convenient for you to track the minutes over the summer. Please let me know if you have any questions about any of these materials or passwords for the online accounts.
I am happy to help!
