We're Learning so Much...It's Scary!
Here's What's Happening in Second Grade!
1. Continue reading for at least 20 minutes per night! It's so important to continue to build that reading stamina and allow your child to read material that interests them!
2. Take a few minutes to talk to your child about what he or she is reading. Ask them to tell you about what they read. Does it remind them of another story they have read? Does it remind them of something that has happened in their own life? Who is telling the story? From which point of view is the story being told?
Our story for the week is Me...Jane by Patrick McDonnell. Our focus for the week will be looking at the illustrations to learn how the author uses the illustrations to help tell the story. We'll answer questions such as, "How do the illustrations help me understand the characters, setting, and events of the story?" and "What is happening in the illustrations and how does it make me feel?" We'll also learn about Jane Goodall and read a nonfiction reader about Chimpanzees.
