Here's What's Happening in Mrs. Brunt's Room!
This week we will be reading a story called Mr. Putter and Tabby Pour the Tea. We will be focusing on story sequence or what happens at the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Our CLAWS reading program will begin this week. Some of you may have received a letter indicating that your child will be attending CLAWS this year. This is a great opportunity for students to grow as readers. Students who remain in the classroom will be taking part in guided reading groups where they will receive small-group reading instruction. This is one of my favorite things to teach, so I can't wait to start working with these small groups!
Our math lessons this week will focus on coin patterns, number grid puzzles, and equivalent names for numbers. We will also learn to play a fun math game called Fishing for 10 which will help us practice addition and subtraction combinations of 10. During science, we have been learning about the scientific method. We're focusing on making observations using our 5 senses and asking questions about the world around us. We performed a really fun science experiment called, "The Runaway Pepper Experiement" last Thursday. Ask your child about this…it's something you could easily recreate at home! This week, we will focus on germs, proper hand washing techniques, and we will conduct a "Potato Germs Experiment "
