Shiver Me Timbers!
Here's What's Happening in Second Grade!
During writer's workshop, we are moving on to informational writing. Our topic for our first informational writing piece will be "My Favorite Friend." Students will go through the entire writing process of brainstorming, writing, editing, revising, and publishing over the course of the next two weeks. This week we will be headed to the Zoom Zone to learn how to narrow in on a topic and focus our thinking.
Math continues to be all about the money! We're still working on counting coins and our Hairy Money strategy from last week has proved to be very helpful. The best thing that you can do for your student when it comes to counting money is to give them the opportunity to count coins at home. One student told me this week that his grandpa always lets him count his pocket change...and it shows! He's a coin counting whiz! On Wednesday, we will complete a quick assessment to see how everyone is doing as we continue to move forward. We'll wrap up the week by focusing more on the value of money and how to make a dollar.
Two of our parents have graciously volunteered to plan our Valentine's Day party! Our party will be on Tuesday, February 14th from 10:00am-11:30am. We have gym and computers in the afternoon, so late morning is the best time for us to have our party. All parents are welcome to join us on this day! Our party planners have asked me to post a sign-up so that you can volunteer to send in items for our party. You can access the sign-up by clicking the button below. We can't wait to have you in our classroom and celebrate Valentine's Day with you! Also, we will be decorating V-Day bags in our classroom. I won't ask you to decorate another box after we just finished up with our how-to writing box project! Students can bring their Valentine's to pass out the day of our party.
