Shiver Me Timbers!
Here's What's Happening in Second GRade!
We'll be taking a look at two different texts this week. We'll be reading Looking at Lincoln on Monday and learning all about President's Day and some of our past Presidents. We'll also be reading a book called Each Kindness. This book is about friendship and how even small acts of kindness can change the world. With everything that's going on in the world, I can't wait to share this wonderful story with the students! We'll be focusing on analyzing the text and making observations of how a character changes throughout the book. Our grammar skill will be subject-verb agreement.
Last week on Friday, we began taking our double-digit subtraction Celebration of Learning (test). We'll wrap that up on Monday morning and then we're moving on to triple-digit subtraction with regrouping. I'm hoping that this will be an easy transition for the kids. They have really been challenged the past several weeks and have impressed me with their hard work and dedication to learning these new math skills.
During writer's workshop, we are completing our informational writing piece about holidays. Towards the end of the week we will begin our final informational writing titled, "My Specialty." This writing assignment will be all about the students' favorite hobbies.
