Shiver Me Timbers!
Here's What's Happening in Second Grade!
During math, we will continue our exploration of how to identify odd and even numbers. We will also review and expand our knowledge of place value. We will be doing lots of hands-on games and activities including: creating and building numbers with base-ten blocks, making place value trees, and playing a game called "Place Value Spin." We'll also be working in our interactive math notebooks. We use our notebooks to complete our daily word problems and practice our other math skills with pockets, flaps, and lots of glue! If you're curious about what these notebooks look like, feel free to stop in and have your child give you a tour!
We are currently working on our second Writing Boot Camp piece. This week we will wrap up our Secret Sergeant Riddles and the kids will have the opportunity to share with the rest of the class. Each child will get to read a classmates' riddle and we will have to guess who the author is based on the clues that they wrote about.
Thank you to those of you who ordered from the Scholastic Book Club order! We were able to earn a FREE book for each student in our class, $20 in FREE books for our class, and 1200 bonus points that I can also use to buy more books for our classroom! Thank you for helping us to continue to build an awesome classroom library!
