Shiver Me timbers!
Here's What's Happening in second grade!
We will begin unit two in our Everyday Math curriculum this week. Unit 2 is all about addition strategies and this week we will learn about addition number stories, doubles facts, combinations of 10, and the near-doubles strategy. Home Links will be coming home every night this week, so be on the lookout. As a reminder, these Home Links should not be taking you more than 10-15 minutes at the most each night. This is just a review of what we have learned in class each day. I will be taking these for a grade, so please remind your child to be responsible and turn in their homework each morning. On a side note, I was so pleased with how everyone did on their first "Celebration of Learning" last week!
During science, we will introduce some of our engineering standards by reading Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beaty. This will be an introduction for a fun STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) project that we will explore together on Friday. I don't want to give away too much information because I want it to be a surprise for the kids, but we will be building something Halloween themed!
Last, but certainly not least, our parent-teacher conferences are about a month away. I'm so excited to meet with each one of you to share your child's progress for the first several months of school. Conferences are 15 minutes long and will be held on November 9th, 10th, and 11th. Please click on the button below to be directed to the SignUp Genius website where you can sign up for a conference. I'm looking forward to meeting with you!
