During writer's workshop we will continue with our final how-to writing piece. For this project, we will integrate science and writing with a fun STEAM {Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math} writing activity. Students will be solving the problem of what to do with a cardboard box. We'll be brainstorming different ways that we can transform our boxes into something special and useful and then writing a how-to piece that our reader could follow to recreate our project. To give you an idea and a little inspiration for our project, go ahead and watch this video clip below...
Welcome to 2019! I hope that everyone had a restful break filled with lots of fun and family time. We're jumping right into the new year with some engaging projects that will keep us very busy. The kids will be watching this same video in class on Tuesday, January 15th when the project is introduced to gain a little inspiration and to see how Caine took some plain cardboard boxes and created something amazing out of them. Each student will come up with an idea of how to transform their box. Please allow them to come up with an idea on their own and try not to guide them in any way. If students are going to be engaged with this project, it is best that they use their own original ideas! Students will be coming up with a list of materials that they will need for their project on Tuesday, January 15th. They will bring this list home with them on Tuesday evening. Boxes will be created at home where students have access to a multitude of supplies and some parent assistance. A letter will also come home outlining my expectations on Tuesday, January 15th. I will include a copy of the letter below for your convenience. Please contact me right away of you have any questions about this project! Boxes are due on Tuesday, January 22nd so that we can continue the writing process. It is important to remember this date because your student will not be able to participate in the writing process if they have not completed the creation stage of the project. Thanks for supporting your student with this fun project!
