Here's What's Happening in Second Grade!
This coming week, we will be reading the story The Rough Face Girl by Rafe Martin. We'll learn all about Native Americans, how to make mental images while reading, and adjectives. We'll also practice retelling the story and comparing and contrasting characters in the story. During writer's workshop, we will continue writing our personal narrative about a time when we were afraid. This week we will focus on writing a catchy hook to grab our reader's attention and make them want to read more. We will also continue to learn subtraction strategies during math. We'll be playing two new math games called Salute and Subtraction Top-It. These games are designed to help us with our subtraction facts and give us an opportunity to practice our newly learned strategies.
Finally, don't forget about parent-teacher conferences on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. With 28 students this year, I did not have enough conference slots on Thursday and Friday, so I've made a few extra slots on Wednesday to accommodate all of my second grade families. If you have not signed up yet, please contact me and we will arrange a time that works best for you. I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful class of students this year and I'm looking forward to meeting with each and every one of you!
