SHIVER ME TIMBERS!
HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN SECOND GRADE!
We moved on and got back down to learning, but later that day I introduced one of our vocabulary words for the week. The word was scent and the kids had to write about a scent that they liked. We talked about chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven, freshly cut grass, the smell of a burning candle, etc. and I sent them on their way to record their thoughts in their reader's response notebooks. After a few minutes of writing, another little guy brought his journal to me and it read, "I like the scent of flowers and Nutella and Mrs. Brunt's hair."
During our math time, we will begin working through unit 3 in our Everyday Math curriculum. We'll continue to learn about addition strategies, fact families, and subtraction from addition. Towards the end of the week, we will have a fun, Thanksgiving-themed science project that will help us to explore the states of matter.
Don't forget that we will have our Halloween parade at 9:30am on Monday morning with the party to follow in the classroom. Hope to see you there!
