Shiver me timbers!
Here's what's happening in second grade!
We've got a great, full week of school ahead and I am excited to wrap up a few of the projects that we have been working on before we enjoy our Thanksgiving break. During writer's workshop, we will finish our personal narrative about a time when we were afraid. If everything goes according to plan, we should be publishing our final draft by Friday. Also, we will be finishing the rest of the lessons in unit 3 of our Everyday Math curriculum. A review will come home Friday, November 18th and will be due on Monday, November 21st.
I am over the moon about our anchor text for reading this week. The title is Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts. It is a beautiful text that reminds students about kindness, friendship, and generosity. We will also take a look at wants versus needs, synonyms & antonyms, inferring, and making connections with the text. We will also be blogging this week for the first time on KidBlog! Students can log in to KidBlog from home, so ask them to show you what they have been blogging about later in the week.
To wrap up the week, I owe the students a Brownie Point reward for great behavior, hard work, and receiving many compliments from other adults around the building. I am so proud of this little family of second graders and how they continue to work hard, learn, and grow this year and I look forward to celebrating them on Friday. They loved the last reward so much (yogurt sundaes for breakfast) that they voted unanimously for me to spoil them again instead of choosing their own reward! I am excited to surprise them with something special! Of course, I will post pictures next week of our special day!
Finally, I posted a link above of a sign-up for some upcoming STEAM projects that we will be working on together with Mrs. Schmidt's class. We love to work together and let the kids mingle with one another for these fun projects! If you are able to donate foil or styrofoam plates, we will be using those on Monday afternoon. If you could send those items in Monday morning with your kiddos, Mrs. Schmidt and I would greatly appreciate it. Also, we go through many, many Lifesavers mints during the school year. Sometimes the kids have a sore throat or tummy ache during the day and a little peppermint helps to soothe the sickness away and avoid a call home to parents. If you could help out by donating mints to our classroom, I would be so thankful! I will add an extra incentive by giving each student who brings in a bag of mints two Pirate Bucks!
